A day in the life of - Audra Savory
As a Senior Technology Consultant with Demarq, no two days are ever quite the same - and that’s exactly what keeps things interesting.
Morning Routine
My workday typically starts between 8:00 and 9:00 AM, depending on what’s on the agenda. Working remotely gives me the flexibility to ease into the day with a cup of tea and a quick scan of my inbox and support mailbox. From there, I prioritise tasks and see if anything urgent has happened overnight.
Core Responsibilities
A large part of my role revolves around client support and data management, though at times I also provide a bit of technology training. I’m the primary point of contact for one of our key clients, helping them make sense of their data and ensuring their systems are running smoothly. I also run resourcing reports for our internal teams, which helps with planning and project allocation.
Throughout the day, I’m often picking up ad hoc tasks - whether it’s troubleshooting, responding to support queries, or jumping into a quick call to resolve an issue. I enjoy the variety and the opportunity to be helpful wherever I’m needed.
Tools of the Trade
Here are some of the tools I use regularly:
- SAS for data processing and analytics
- Microsoft 365 (especially Outlook and Excel)
- Teams and Slack for communication
- Linux for server-side tasks
- Power BI for reporting
- Microsoft Azure/Microsoft Fabric, which I’m starting to use more as we move further into cloud-based solutions
What I Love About My Job
The best part of my day is the interaction with clients. I genuinely enjoy helping them improve their data processes and seeing the impact of our work. It’s rewarding to know that the solutions we provide make a real difference.
Staying Curious
I approach challenges with a proactive mindset, viewing them as opportunities to learn and grow. When I encounter something unfamiliar, I don’t hesitate to research and find solutions. This habit of continuous learning has been invaluable-especially in the ever-evolving world of technology.
Wrapping Up
My day usually winds down between 4:00 and 6:00 PM, depending on workload. I like to end the day by reviewing what I’ve accomplished and setting up a plan for tomorrow. It helps me stay focused and organised in a fast-paced environment.
